As We See It will feature the paintings and drawings of three Metro Detroit women artists – Candace Brancik, Janet Kohler, & Roselyn Rhodes. On view will be plein-air landscapes, figures and portraits, abstracts, and more revealing a variety of subjects.
A free public reception will be held Friday, May 17, 5 – 8 pm.

Candace Brancik of Milford attended Atlanta College of Art and completed her Bachelors of Art at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. Working primarily in oil paint, she loves painting all manner of subjects, but is most interested in figure and portrait, and continues to study in this area.

Janet Kohler of Whitmore Lake received her BFA from College for Creative Studies in Detroit and her MFA from Eastern Michigan University. She finds joy creating paintings from life and “en plein air”. Sights and sounds inspire her to recreate moments that bring her plein air paintings to life. Her aim is to capture the scene in a breath of fresh air with expressive pastel marks, saturated color and create an emotional connection.

Rose Rhodes of Wolverine Lake has a BFA in Graphic Design and Fine Arts from the University of Michigan. Her body of work includes plein-airs, studio landscapes, and large abstracts, figurative work from life and adored pets from photos. The impressionistic to abstract quality of her work is loose, spontaneous and full of expressive color. Her brush strokes evoke an energy that can visually transmit the emotional experience in her paintings.
