Bonnie Lautenberg’s latest project Artistica! is a body of work exploring how one art form might have influenced another. When Italian artist Lucio Fontana saw Michelangelo Antonioni’s Red Desert, it moved him to create his radiant and mesmerizing painting ‘Concetto Spaziale, Attese’, his masterpiece that bears 24 incisions, the most of any of his work. When he finished this painting, he wrote on the back “I returned yesterday from Venice and saw the film Red Desert by Michelangelo Antonioni”. Artistica! explores possible connections between other works. For example, did Pablo Picasso painted his Blue Hat With Red Ribbon in 1939 after he saw the movie The Wizard of Oz? Or could Victor Fleming have been influenced by the color palette of Picasso’s blue and yellow painting when he began making his movie?
