The Art Museum at USJ invites you to join us in the Hoffman Auditorium for the Vincenza Uccello Fine Arts Lecture “Lewis Hine, Artist & Activist.” The lecture will be given by Independent Scholar and Curator of Photographs Alison Nordström. Dr. Nordström is well-known as a curator and organizer of photographic projects in the US and around the world. She has curated over 100 exhibitions of photography and published works on Pictorialism, New Topographics and Lewis Hine. Nordström will discuss Hine’s social activism and it’s translation into his photography, highlighting his position in the long history of progressive activism on such issues as child labor and immigration.

The lecture is being held in conjunction with the Art Museum’s current exhibition “Our Strength is Our People:” The Humanist Photographs of Lewis Hine, which features works on three themes present throughout his life’s work: immigration, child labor, and the American worker. We look forward to having you join us! The lecture will be preceded by a reception with light refreshments beginning at 5:30 pm. For more information contact Rochelle L. R. Oakley at [email protected] or 860.231.5743.
