Gilcrease Museum of the University of Tulsa presents Edgar Payne: The Scenic Journey. This exhibition features nearly 100 paintings and drawings, photographs and objects from the artist’s studio. It has toured
at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, after its debut at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, Calif., last November.

Payne is a master of brushwork, vibrant palette, and brilliant light of Impressionism. He captures in his compositions the rugged beauty of landscapes filled with people. Explored is Payne’s artistic development as he traveled the world in search of intriguing subjects and settings: the Southern and Central California coast, the Sierra, the Swiss Alps, the harbors and waterways of France and Italy, and the desert Southwest.
