Say hello to sun-filled days with Sorelle Gallery’s next exhibition entitled “SUNNY SIDE”: NEW works by Sheryl Daane-Chesnut and Susan Jositas”; on display at Sorelle’s New Canaan location from May 19th – June 20th. An opening reception will be held Thursday, May 19th from 5:00 to 8:00pm.

Although Daane-Chesnut and Jositas differ in subject matter and stylistic approach, both artists embrace summer colors and light through intuitive brushstrokes and tender paint layers.

Connecticut oil-painter and pastelist Susan Jositas finds inspiration in the panoramic landscapes of the Adirondack Mountains, and Nantucket’s romantic moors and cottages. Her plein air landscapes sing with luminous atmosphere. In her studio, softly-painted lilacs and pansies are gracefully immortalized. As a reiki master, Jositas brings an element of healing energy to her paintings – collectors often describe her paintings as sensitive, peaceful or inspirational. Jositas says, “Painting requires being fully present in the moment. It is a gift to be able to see and experience things that are easily missed in the fast pace of life…”

California-based artist Sheryl Daane Chesnut enjoys working with mixed media to create insightful, ethereal paintings that intentionally blend abstract and representational disciplines. Complex layers of acrylics, charcoal and oil sticks, spray paint, and metal leaf are added and etched away. In her abstract and figurative paintings, artfully-composed lines and vivid marks entice the viewer, encouraging feelings of tranquility or joy, serenity or introspection.
