Myrtle Beach-bred, New York Artists Sigmund Abeles was deeply influenced by Grand Strand area artists and photographers.

Abeles studied at the Fine Arts program of the University of South Carolina, the Art Students League of New York and the Skowhegan School in Maine. He continues on to teach at the prestigious Art Students League in new York, The National Academy School, University of New Hampshire, Boston University, Wellesley College and Swain School of Design. His work is a type of representational that is mixed with expressionist overtones.
