The Mattress Factory is a museum of contemporary art museum that offers installation pieces that you can get into! Real room-sized works of art and studies that are created by in-residence artists. Located at the Pittsburgh’s North Side the museum was and actual mattress factory that was refurbished in 1977 and is one of the most unique conceptual spaces in the world.

The Museum’s galleries are located in two buildings that have grown a distinctive collection, featuring artists James Turrell, Yayoi Kusama, Winifred Lutz and Rolf Julius. The Mattress Factory has supported over 500 artists through a residency program unique in the art world. Once a year artists come to Pittsburgh to live at the museum while designing new work. During their stay the museum supports them as they take art risks and experiment with the creative process.
