Speakers: Steven Certilman and Sandra Levinson
Steven Certilman’s significant collection of contemporary Cuban art is the focus of the exhibition Absolut Kuba! An avid art collector, Certilman has sourced pieces directly from the artists during travels to Cuba for more than a decade and has dedicated himself to promoting the country’s emerging talent.
Sandra Levinson is Director of the Center for Cuban Studies and Curator of the Center’s Cuban Art Space. She travels to Cuba several times each year, leading trips on Cuban art and architecture, collecting art and crafts for the Center’s 10,000-piece collection of art, posters and photographs, and working with news and other non-profit organizations to help them accomplish their professional goals. One of the Center’s founders in 1972, she is a passionate advocate for Cuban art. The Center for Cuban Studies brought the lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury Department in 1991 that legalized the importation of Cuban original art.
