Beauty Was a Horse: A Beating Heart in the Age of Reason
The elusive question, what is beauty? has beguiled the art world for millennia. A critical examination of a brief period in cultural history—the Romantic Era of the early 19th century—illustrates how the artistic community sought to embrace emotion as the primary human trait. The powers of science and reason held many in its thrall during the Enlightenment. This lecture will explore the persuasive psychic effect of the reactionary Romantic movement through the eyes of one of its most beloved and beautiful creatures, the horse.
