Also known as the Way of the Tea, the Japanese tea ceremony is the traditional method of preparing and drinking matcha, or powdered green tea. The ceremony is called sado (茶道) or chanoyu (茶の湯) in Japanese culture. The manner in which the event is performed is called otemae.

The Japanese tea ceremony will be performed on Friday, October 28, from 1-2:30 pm, in the Fairfield University Art Museum and is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Crafting the Elements: Ceramic Art of Modern Japan from the Collection of Carol and Jeffrey Horvitz.
