Heather Gaudio Fine Art is pleased to present Jasmina Danowski: Taking in the Obscenery, to be held February 21ththrough April 11th. This is Danowski’s first exhibition with the gallery and will feature her most recent body of work. The public is invited to attend a reception for the artist on Saturday, February 28th, 1-5 pm.

Danowski translates personal situational experiences onto canvas and paper, creating vibrantly harmonious poetic abstractions that are filled with a richness of color and texture. Drawing from memories or associations with places or situations, she starts by dabbing the pigment onto a prepared surface, allowing the medium to respond to the marks she creates: at times a bevy of paint, at others an isolated gestural mark reminiscent of Japanese calligraphy. The colorful compositions then evolve from there, following the inner stories of what a painting conjures and what her mind responds to, very much akin to improvisational jazz. Although her imagery is very nature based, Danowski masterfully restrains herself from delving into a fully pictorial vocabulary. Her skill is evident in the different mediums she employs, from oils and inks mixed with hand-made pigments, to fillers such as wax, gesso and sand. She can typically work on several works simultaneously, sometimes taking over nine months to complete a piece.

Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Danowski received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and MFA from Bard College in New York. She is a twice recipient of the distinguished Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award and has a notable roster of solo and group exhibitions. Her work is widely sought after among private collectors and is included in the Mississippi Museum of Art and the Lauren Rogers Museum in Mississippi.
