This is an opportunity to work hands on with Super-8 and 16mm film material and equipment available from the Northeast Institute for Analog Studies. Workshop participants will explore a variety of ways to get images onto film ranging from drawing on the film material to in-camera photographic techniques. The purpose of this workshop is to encounter and engage with the medium of film as a basic material for generating and presenting images. The demonstrations will cover hand made film techniques, basic cinematography, camera operation, sound, hand developing black and white film, film slicing, video transfer, basic editing, projection, and other presentation options. The course will culminate in an evening of presentations of films by the students and workshop leaders. The primary prerequisite for this course is a willingness to experiment with one’s own visual ideas. Previous film experience is helpful but not required.
*this course may be taken for 1.5 credits; additional fees, pre-requisites, and requirements apply. Please contact the Continuing Education Office first to confirm eligibility before registering for credit.Montserrat Students should register via campus cafe.
