Activities begin at 6 p.m. in Bruyette Athenaeum with a Lantern-Making Workshop to honor those we have lost. At 7 p.m., we will parade by lantern-light, accompanied by Catrinas and Mariachi musicians, from Bruyette Athenaeum, around the USJ campus, to the Chapel where we end the evening with a poetry reading and seasonal refreshments.

Join the festivities costumed as “La Catrina,” the elegant female skeleton who is a symbol of Dia de Muertos and was inspired by Mexican cartoonist José Guadalupe Posada. Cash prizes for the best Catrinas! This event is free and open to the public. Co-sponsored by USJ Campus Ministry and the Art Museum, USJ. For information contact Lynnette Colón [email protected].

Wait there’s more! The celebration continues with community ofrendas and other activities on Saturday, November 2 at the Connecticut Historical Society, https://chs.org/event/dia-de-muertos-free-community-events.
