Students will engage in a cultural and technical exploration of the basic elements of art and design (color, shape, value, emphasis, space, texture, pattern, etc.), learning about different art eras like the Harlem Renaissance and Black Arts Movements. Students will be producing work that reflects the style of the various artists of that time and focus on color theory and the works of Aaron Douglas. The culminating project would be a collective piece designed in his style to be displayed (semi-permanently) in or around The Norwalk Art Space. Visiting artist Aisha Nailah holds a bachelor’s in art therapy and is a certified teaching artist. Inspired culturally by being a woman of the African Diaspora and Costa Rican descent, Aisha is also inspired by street art, especially the free forms and colors in the styles and calligraphic movements. Free and open to ages 13-18. Registration is required through our website: www.thenorwalkartspace.org/book-online (If the class is full, please email [email protected] to be added to the waitlist)
