This class is meant to open the door into the soul of the artist through collage. Collage is an art process in which pieces of paper, photographs, fabric, and other material are arranged and stuck onto a supporting surface. Collage can also include painting, drawing and even 3-dimensional elements. Students will learn unique and experimental ways to combine mediums in order to convey a multitude of powerful messages. Each collage piece will be up-cycled to create a larger final piece. Each week, we will focus on unique and varying mediums, emphasizing color, spacing and form to capture the eye in an aesthetically pleasing manner. We will study eclectic artists like Deborah Roberts, Gordon Parks, Yung Yemi, Patrick Dougher, and Ingrid Baars. Students will view the film, Black Art: In the Absence of Light to gain insight on pushing boundaries and creating with intent.

This class is open to all levels, from beginner to experienced. Final artwork will be included in a public exhibition at The Norwalk Art Space on August 18, 2022. Free and open to students 12 – 18 yrs of age; 10 spots; registration required.
