Ever heard of yarn bombing? Well, know there is basket bombing! Thanks to the inspiration from basket maker Karen Gubitz, Fruitlands is working to cover our grounds with baskets, and we need your help. We will be making baskets in tress, on fence posts, anywhere we can wrap some reeds. At the end of the season these baskets will be used as the base for our bonfire.

Local basket makers will also be on hand demonstrating their own work. On May 26th Jean Bove Reed, of Murray Hill Weaving will be showcasing her Shaker baskets made with molds. Jean will also be with us on June 11th, and she will be joined by Lynn Francis Lunn who will be working on some contemporary paper weaving. On July 12th we welcome back Fred Lawson of Wicker’d Good Baskets to join in the fun.

While you watch the pros at work, try your hand at making a basket using simple, recycled materials. There will be museum staff on hand to help you create your own masterpiece.

More workshop dates:
June 11, 2 – 4PM
July 12, 2 – 4PM
