‘ground.work’ features works created during my first year in the Litchfield hills. After 40 years of day-tripping up north, I finally packed up and moved here, lock, stock and barrel, last fall. This landscape has always resonated with me, but living here is a different experience than simply visiting. I’ve devoted this year to walking the land, looking closely, and slowly assimilating what I see and experience here. I use color, atmospherics, and abstractions based on landscape to express my impressions.
I am still in the ‘getting to know you’ stage of acquaintanceship with the land, because like good friends, deep connections don’t happen overnight. I do know that with each passing year there will be a greater understanding and a deeper connection that will ultimately bear rich rewards and much wonder. I hope that you feel some of this too as you view my work.
