Artist Academy @Hygienic offers “Navigating the Legalities of Art” Workshop by Attorney Ted Phillips

New London, CT- The Artist Academy at Hygienic Art Galleries is thrilled to have award-winning Attorney Theodore Phillips lead the upcoming workshop “Navigating the Legality of Art” on Thursday, March 24th from 7-9pm. Many of the artists in this program would like to make the transition to being able to practice their craft as an additional or primary source of income and want to understand the legal steps needed in order to make that transition.

Attorney Phillips brings a plethora of expertise specifically tailored to meet the needs of creative entrepreneurs. His boutique practice has been providing business advice to large corporations and individuals for decades. Among his accomplishments, he served as co-chair of the Connecticut Bar Association YLS Committee on Commercial Law and Bankruptcy, and is also a past president of the New London County Bar Association.

The Connecticut Law Tribune recently called Phillips “an attorney who is all business” in naming him one of a dozen lawyers in the state “who make a difference.” He has lectured on numerous occasions on various aspects of the law, and he regularly answers callers’ legal questions on the radio.

Phillips is the founding chairman of the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, is the current chairman of the Norwich Free Academy board of trustees and was the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut Citizen of the Year in 2000. He is the recipient of the 2015 Ron D. Aliano Service Award, and received many other recognitions.

Married to Jaqueline Phillips, a notable regional artist, and also a musician himself, Phillips is well connected with the business needs of an artist.

The Artist Academy presents fundamental business skills to independent artists that range from marketing to grant writing to help them launch and develop their careers as successful business entrepreneurs. This program provides a platform for nationally and regionally recognized art industry leaders to share their knowledge and expertise with artists in order to equip them with the specific tools and resources required to launch or enhance their business.

Targeting the specific needs of artists as business owners, topics that will be covered during the Artist Academy workshops include: Business Development, Goal Setting, Marketing, Branding, Grant Writing, Legal Issues, Copyright, Contract Negotiations, Tax & Incorporation, and Financial Management.

The Artist Academy workshops are held at Hygienic Galleries once every month culminating in June 2016. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so sign up today!

This program is made possible through the generous support of Citizens Bank.
