The Umbrella Stage Company is proud to kick off its new @ Home series with An Elegant Storm, a newly created work written by Kevin Broccoli, directed by Michelle Aguillon.
Two sisters juggle family dynamics, quarantine, and an impending hurricane as they try to find their missing third sister and elderly father, who appear to be heading straight into a natural disaster. How do you protect those you love when armed only with technology? How do those who are disconnected from the world find their way back to it again? Is it possible to bridge lifelong divides at a time when so much is broken?
Inspired by Shakespeare’s King Lear, this digital thriller is a glimpse into a family at a breaking point.
The play stars Audrey Wong-Centauro as Stacey, Maria Hendricks as Holly, and Sabrina Victor as Dee, and is made possible by the generosity of Gregory Maguire and Andy Newman.
The Umbrella Stage Company @ Home New Works series features short-length original works by local playwrights written to optimize virtual performance environments and digital theater experiences. The performances are performed live on Zoom. Performances are presented free, with optional donations whose proceeds support local performers and writers, but require RSVP in advance at TheUmbrellaArts.org/production/elegant-storm to prevent Zoom bombing.
