Visions in the Nunnery is the Nunnery Gallery’s renowned biennial showcase of recent moving image and performance artwork. The open call is an opportunity to be part of one of the most varied and exciting presentations of moving image in London. We invite submissions from all over the world to exhibit with each year’s specially invited lead artists whose work will set the tone for the three programmes.
Visions 2020’s first lead artist was announced as 2019 Jarman Award winner Hetain Patel, our second is technical innovator Nye Thompson. Stay tuned for the announcement of our final lead artist shortly…
OPEN CALL DETAILS
WHO | Moving image and performance artists
WHAT | We are looking for recent work that has been made in the last two years. There is no theme, but the tone of each programme is set by three lead artists. Selection will be based on innovative uses of your chosen medium. No more than three entries per artist.

WHEN | 24 September – 13 December 2020
REQUIREMENTS
Moving Image | We are looking for single screen works of up to 10 minutes in duration. However, we do have limited space for small installation / monitor based work, or longer single-screen pieces. If you are submitting an installation, please provide additional information describing the work, including presentation equipment, dimensions, space requirements etc. Please be aware that we cannot always provide specific equipment for installation-based works.
Performance | We are looking for live works up to 15 minutes in duration for the Visions 2020 performance events. Please describe the work’s mechanics, including equipment, dimensions, props, space requirements, number of performers etc. If possible, a taster clip via video-link is always useful.

Covid-19 Update:
Though the Nunnery Gallery is currently closed due to the covid-19 crisis, our Visions 2020 open call remains open. We hope to deliver Visions as planned in late September; dates are subject to change but we will keep all entrants updated. At a time when keeping art and culture alive is more important than ever, we believe in the significance of celebrating and showing artwork from across the world. Should it be necessary to cancel the show, all entrants would be reimbursed their entrance fee. Please email [email protected] for more information.
About Visions
Established in 1999, Visions in the Nunnery is a renowned showcase of moving image, digital and performance art, selected from an international open call. Now a biennial staple of the Nunnery Gallery programme, Visions 2020 will be the 12th edition of the exhibition. Drawing on its rich history, Visions now invites three established artists to lead programmes for each exhibition, setting the tone and themes for the open call. 2020’s first lead artist has been announced as 2019 Jarman Award winner Hetain Patel. Visions will be selected by artist and selector Tessa Garland, Sophie Hill, Director of Arts + Events at Bow Arts, and artist and curator Kamila Kuc.
