Puppies, pastel desserts, miniature anything—that’s cute. But there’s a dark side [ OwO ]. Cute things are things easily harmed. There is an inverse relationship between vulnerability and the impulse to care for, or crush. Shallow, easily dismissable, feminine, childish—these words are often synonymous with cute. This exhibition seeks art works that push the aesthetic boundaries of the adorable. Selected works will be incorporated into an immersive installation at Iowa City’s Public Space One.

About the organizers:
Drake A. Wilbur is a cute graphic designer. Vero Rose Smith is a dream-artist. Together, they will curate the sparkliest, fluffiest, most enchanting immersive installation ever!!! <3 <3 <3

Application Fee: None

Application Materials:
Email single PDF document including artist name, location, short (~50 word) description of work with dimensions and media, and up to five images of work to be considered. Digital submissions only. Send materials to [email protected] by 11:59pm on April 6, 2020.

Timeline:
April 6: Submissions Due
April 6 – 11: Adjudication
April 13: Artists notified
April 15: Artist confirmation due
May 11: Art delivered to PS1 (at artist’s expense)
May 20 – 23: Install
May 23: Soft Open
June 6: Iowa City Gallery Walk and Reception!
June 7-15: Deinstall and send back to artists (at artist’s expense)
