Reflections on Colorism: Art as the Alternative Mirror

DESCRIPTION: Reflections on Colorism will be curated by Dr. Sarah L. Webb of Colorism Healing. The exhibit investigates the history and trajectory of colorism–bias based on skin tone across races–through documentary and speculative works of art. This exhibit juxtaposes traditional, mainstream attitudes about complexion and other racialized features with imaginings of new narratives and alternative visions.

ELIGIBILITY: Submissions are open to any artist whose work directly addresses the issue of colorism. All mediums will be considered. Artwork may be an original or a high-quality reproduction.
Additional Info: Artists are responsible for shipping or delivering artwork to the gallery. Artwork must be delivered by February 22, 2019. The gallery is able to offer return shipping for domestic pieces. Exhibit pieces can be sold. The gallery retains a 30% sales commission. The gallery can store or arrange for temporary storage/pick-up/shipment of any works sold. The gallery will provide photographs of the exhibit.
