The presentation of a photographic image greatly influences its effect on a viewer. How do we consider an image seen in a book that we hold as opposed to a photograph in a frame hanging on a wall? PHOTOBOOK, an upcoming exhibition at Vivid Solutions Gallery, seeks to examine these interactions.

PHOTOBOOK will open November 7, 2014 during FotoWeekDC at Vivid Solutions Gallery in Historic Anacostia. Photographer’s books will be displayed adjacent to framed photographs from the body of work presented in the books. This presentation will give the audience two ways to consider the photographer’s work: as a finished book that they can handle and as framed prints on the wall. Visitors can leave feedback for the photographers on both presentations of their work.

Who is eligible:
All levels of photographers who have produced a photography book of their own work are invited to apply. Photographers whose photography books were produced by publishing companies will also be considered. All artists who are accepted will be notified by September 19.

Requirements:
Photographers must apply with a copy of their book and a CD or flash drive with 3­5 images of prints that would be available for display. No online submissions will be accepted for this exhibition. Applications can be mailed or dropped off in person. If accepted, artists agree to print and professionally frame or mount 2­3 images for the exhibition. One photography book will be required to be on display during the whole exhibit (with the understanding that it will be handled by visitors). All work must be dropped off by November 2. (There is no fee for this application.)

Exhibition Dates:
Exhibit opens on November 7; artists that are accepted will be required to attend the opening reception. Exhibit closes December 19.
