“FANTASY” National Juried Exhibition

DESCRIPTION:  “Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.” – Dr. Seuss

Fantasy can be described as a free play of creative imagination, a forming of mental images, wondrous or strange. Fantasy is vital for the human mind. It begins as the psychological process by which a child learns to fill the gaps between knowledge, reality and experience, and becomes a vital adult coping mechanism. Psychoanalysis and counseling have their place, but the most important tool we as humans have to tackle reality, is the creation of fantasies.

Arc Gallery wants to know your interpretation of “fantasy.” You can draw from science fiction, folklore or mythology to create imaginative worlds. You can imagine a utopian world or create heroes, superheroes, and creatures that only exist in your imagination. Works can excite pleasurable senses or explore dark fantasies and obsessions. Works can contain magical or supernatural elements. Share your fantasy with us.

CATEGORIES ACCEPTED: Sculpture, painting, drawing, photo, printmaking, ceramics, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, glass art, artist book

JUROR: Philip Bewley, Philip Bewley Art Advisory, San Francisco, CA
Philip Bewley is a Curator and Art Advisor with over twenty-five years of experience in the curation of fine art and in the production of exhibitions. Philip was previously DZINE Gallery’s Director and Curator, producing exhibitions featuring Bay Area artists.

JUROR’S AWARD: A Juror’s Award ribbon, certificate, catalog and $250 will be presented to each of the three works that express the most imaginative interpretation of the theme.

EXHIBITION DATES: November 18, 2023 – December 16, 2023

GALLERY & ON-LINE GALLERY: There are two opportunities to get into this show. The juror will select works that will be exhibited in the Arc Gallery at 1246 Folsom Street and works that will be included only on the Arc On-line Gallery.

CATALOG: All artwork selected will be included in the exhibition catalog. Catalogs will be available for order at the time of notification.

ELIGIBILITY: Artists residing in the United States.

NON-REFUNDABLE ENTRY FEE: Payment of $35 per entry.
