2022 Mural Season – Straight Up Art
Town Green District Special Services
Entry Deadline: Mar. 29
Town Green District, a Downtown New Haven Business Improvement District, holds its third season of Straight Up Art – a public art mural program. Two locations are available to paint this year, both in the heart of downtown New Haven.
Straight Up Art values cultivating downtown neighborhood pride, growing the local creative economy, and creating a beautiful, walkable Downtown environment for all. During this two-round selection process, prospective artists are encouraged to walk the Downtown neighborhood streets where the walls are located, learn about the local history, and appreciate the context in which they are wanting to contribute their creativity. Site-specific and interactive murals are especially welcome.
Artists will be compensated for their work and all materials, total awards dependent on which location site selected. Artists accepted from the RFQ will be given a small stipend to create a site-specific proposal for the second round of applications, RFP.
Notable Dates: 1st Round: RFQ (request for qualifications), requesting general information about you as an artist, including – photos of past work, links to portfolio and/or website/social media, etc.
2nd Round: RFP (request for proposal), selected artists will be provided stipends to create work specific to the mural sites
3rd Round: In mid-May final artists will be chosen based on their RFP submissions; artists will work on finalizing designs and planning to begin painting in June
