Bio
Linda Harrison-Parsons creates her works from what she sees in nature. She documents moments in time of those things that may be gone tomorrow.
Born in Washington D.C. Linda moved around the city, into Maryland, Virginia, as an adult lives and travels around the United States. Currently living in Arizona. Growing up seeing both the city and rural life opened her eyes to try new things, explore new places. Traveling to Africa to view wildlife in their natural surroundings was a lifetime dream come true. Developing bodies of work influenced by her travels, each new adventure opens up a new series.
Raising a family and pursuing her education she took classes where ever she was living. Returning to Maryland she was accepted at the Maryland Institute, College of Art. Studying with Abbey Sangiamo she found her passion in drawing. Taking her style she applied it to reductive technique using soft pastel on hand-made cotton paper. She received a BFA from MICA and continuing on to George Washington University for a MFA.
Creating a business during her studies at George Washington she worked with designers creating mural painting and faux finish applications. Expanding her company she worked with businesses and in private residence, continuing to paint murals.
She became involved with the newly formed group Maryland Printmakers, Inc. She worked to establish their incorporation and non-profit status. Creating and organizing educational opportunities for students and artists. Co-chaired and hosted the Southern Graphics Council conference in Baltimore, MD. Hosting over 800 participates and artists. Linda worked on committees to organize international printmakers exchange and exhibits with Cultural Arts in Brazil. She worked on the board of Maryland Printmakers, Inc. serving in multiple positions during a twelve year period. During this time, served on the board of Southern Graphics as treasurer and working to assist them with 501-C-3 status.
Later she became a certified Artist in Resident through the Maryland State Arts Council, teaching all levels of students, throughout Maryland. Developing workshops for adults, alternative school programs and working with special needs students since 1994. Linda has been invited to teach pastel, painting, paper making workshops at Ghost Ranch and Taos, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Florida, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan, Arizona and Zambia.
Linda continues to explore new venues each year for exhibiting her personal work in galleries, group and solo shows. She is an award winning artist whose work is inspired by the natural world. A background in design and printmaking, all of her work is based in the strength of drawing. Observing the bark of trees, the feathers of birds or the fur in animals she takes what she sees in nature and makes it her own. Currently she works with handmade papers, soft pastels or water-based oils to achieve the desired effect. She has works in businesses and private collections throughout North America, South America, Africa and Europe.
