The intent of this juried exhibition is to showcase the best in contemporary ceramics. The Springfield Art Association’s (SAA) M. G. Nelson Family Gallery offers nearly 1400 square feet of high quality exhibition space in Springfield, Illinois. Cash prizes ($500, $300 and $200) will be awarded. The Springfield Art Association is the oldest visual arts organization in Central Illinois and is dedicated to the support and promotion of the visual arts.

JUROR
Erin Furimsky is currently teaches ceramics at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois. She exhibits her work nationwide along with presenting workshops and lectures. She earned her BFA in ceramics and studio art from Pennsylvania State University and her MFA in ceramics from Ohio State University. Her work is meticulously hand built sensuous forms that incorporate multiple layers of pattern of texture.

JUROR STATEMENT
Being invited to jury the Shapes of Influences Contemporary Ceramics exhibition and to award prizes is an incredible honor. I welcome art that is created in the multifaceted and long-established roots of utilitarian and sculptural ceramics, as well as works that push the boundaries like those incorporating mixed media or employing digital processes. With my selections, I will try to showcase outstanding artists and create a resonant grouping of work representing the stimulating and versatile field of contemporary ceramics. Ceramics is not being created in a vacuum. Larger social, political and cultural trends shape clay within the framework of its rich craft history. I look forward to seeing your work.
