Unfolding Layers: Monotype Accordion Book Workshop
Class type: Printmaking
Instructor: Michele Liebler
Description:
In this 3 week intensive immersion course students will explore the art of Monotype. Monotypes, the most painterly of printmaking techniques, were used by artists from Degas to Jasper Johns. Students will focus on exploring the interactions of monotype with pastels. Learn to create infinite effects by layering images and patterns to create a series of one-of-a-kind works on paper. We will experiment with blending techniques, additive and reductive methods, monoprint collage and creating textures with Gelli plates. The finalized edition of prints will be assembled into a gallery ready accordion book and book case. Workshop will culminate with a showing of completed books and cases. Open to all levels.

Terracotta Sculpture Workshop

Description:
Expand the potential of clay beyond pots and vases, and morph your very own creation pushing the boundaries of traditional techniques and informed by contemporary approaches in this intensive terracotta immersion lead by Clay Sculpture Master Wei Qing Yuan, and National Academy Director Maurizio Pellegrin. Learn about modeling and hand building, sculpting and carving, firing and finishing, and explore the versatility of clay to create your own gallery ready terracotta artwork. Final pieces will be fired and glazed on Academy premises, and showcased in a culminating one day school exhibition.

Create a project in painting and mixed media while being introduced to the history of abstract art. Experiment with various methods, materials, and approaches to art-making. Learn to solve problems creatively and to move forward with production. Together we will find a starting point to produce a body of work arising from your individual technique and philosophy. The practice of general critique will also be encouraged. Open to artists with or without an ongoing project.
