The Studio Art Quilt Association (SAQA) is coming to the Lyme Art Association! From Wednesday, July 15 through Wednesday, July 22, LAA’s main floor Galleries will display over 50 quilts. Each quilt is 10 x 7 inches, mounted on a black backing board, and sealed inside a clear envelope. The artist’s location, artwork title, statement and information about techniques and materials are on the back. The quilts are not for sale.

The Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) defines an art quilt as “a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure.” SAQA’s mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation and publications.

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary SAQA invited its members to create a small piece; 407 members responded, and the traveling trunk show was launched with eight trunks traveling the globe. The group of pieces that will be shown at the Lyme Art Association illustrate a wide variety of styles, techniques and materials – all in the name of the art quilt.

A presentation will be held on Thursday, July 16 at 7pm, sponsored by SAQA, providing two speakers and refreshments. Admission to the presentation is free for LAA and SAQA members, $5 for non-members. Proceeds go to LAA.
