Imagine Art announces its annual Art Extravaganza! Once again Imagine Art will be showcasing the work that its artists have created throughout the 2022-2023 AmeriCorps Service Year.

“Imagine Art: Where Every Life is a Work of Art”

An impressive array of work will be on display and for sale on June 3rd, 2023, at our St. Luke Studio, 1611 W. 14th Street, Austin, TX 78703. The event will be from 10:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. Available works will include ceramics, painting, drawing, jewelry, textiles, and mixed media. Our AmeriCorps Artists-in-Residence have worked with artists since September to create high quality, imaginative work and prepare them for public display and sale.

The centerpiece of Smoke & Sizzle will be a Raku firing demonstration. The public will have the opportunity to purchase a ceramic piece, apply glaze to it and watch it fired using the raku method. Individuals will be able to take their finished piece home after it is fired. Raku is an ancient Japanese process for making tea bowls. The pottery is fired to 1800 degrees then pulled out of the kiln while red hot and placed in a bucket of combustible material. When cooled the finished product has a beautiful metallic or crackled finish. You will cherish your finished piece for years to come.

We will also have demonstrations in jewelry making and Plein Air painting. As a gift to our hosts, St. Luke United Methodist Church, we will also create a Community Mural onsite. The public is welcome to come participate in the mural painting which will be placed permanently on display in front of St. Luke.

Representatives from AmeriCorps programs in Central Texas will be onsite to share information about how AmeriCorps members strengthen our community and how interested individuals can apply to serve during the upcoming 2023-2024 AmeriCorps Service Year. Several AmeriCorps programs are recruiting high school graduates, including Imagine Art!

The Smoke and Sizzle Art Extravaganza is a family friendly event. Spend the day with us viewing our artwork and participating in our various workshops and art activities. Registration is requested, but not required, on Eventbrite.
