Although he enjoys the temporal nature of artworks by Andy Goldsworthy, and brings organic whimsy to his sculpture, Rob Lorenson’s artistic goal is to create works that survive centuries. Using stainless steel, aluminum, and polyester marine urethane, he thinks in terms of structural integrity and material permanence. His signature sculptural shape is a split-ring, manipulated again and again to create intriguing tension, attitude and gesture. Lorenson says, “A split-ring symbolizes life’s cycles and seasons. Of moments in time; of thoughts and ideas rushing in… It is emblematic of human existence. All things essential in nature are circular.”

A painter and dancer, Ryn Del Mar’s elegant figure paintings capture dance movements and the romantic feelings they inspire. She uses many tools to amplify emotion and action – including palette knives, paste, and acrylic spray-paint. Swatches of paint serve as the buzz of wind when twirling; layered brush strokes embody shifting lace. Del Mar states, “We have countless cliché phrases to describe the feeling dance and painting give me in my best moments. ‘Cloud 9’, ‘In the Zone’, ‘Runner’s High’, ‘Seventh Heaven’ … I paint to communicate to all the blissful energy of dance; I dance to remember the satisfying hard work behind grace.”
