As part of its structuring initiatives to strengthen education and culture in the country, the Instituto TeArt conceives and holds, on September 12, 2026, at the Museu Afro Brasil Emanoel Araujo, the seminar “Antiracist Pedagogical Practices in Education and Art Spaces”. The gathering connects art, education, knowledge and pedagogical practices to foster interdisciplinary dialogue among educators, artists, and cultural and educational institutions on antiracist education.
Curated by Claudinei Roberto da Silva with associate curator Auana Diniz, the Instituto TeArt initiative was designed to share and discuss educational, artistic and cultural initiatives related to Afro-Brazilian, African and Afro-diasporic arts and cultures, helping to expand the theoretical and methodological repertoire for teaching and learning these subjects in public schools.
The seminar is part of Enredar — Instituto TeArt’s educational project aimed at public schools and grounded in the connection between art and territory in four Brazilian state capitals, Brasília, Goiânia, Recife and São Paulo —, and seeks to strengthen the implementation of Laws No. 10.639/2003 and No. 11.645/2008, which make the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous history and culture mandatory in schools.
The initiative reaffirms the institute’s view that teacher training and exposure to Afro-diasporic artistic production are indispensable pillars for building a plural, emancipatory education.
