Recount is a mixed media exhibition with a focus on printmaking, Ford’s artwork deals with themes of life through the filter of her imagination. Her desire is to bring awareness to personal, psychological and social issues within intimate and community settings.
The desire of the artist is to bring awareness to personal, psychological and social issues within intimate and community settings, serving as both the theme, and the underlying catalyst of Ford’s work. Personal life experiences involving family, friends and animals have become the influence driving the images Ford creates. Ford’s artistic development spirals around the need to create, make new discoveries and commit them to form. The artist also finds fulfillment during printmaking which provides a challenge to learn and explore the endless possibilities of the medium.
The work in this show continues to deal with themes of life through the filter of Ford’s imagination. The artist has created a series of prints dealing with her childhood. Recently the artist connected with a close childhood friend who is writing short stories about our growing up in Greenville MI, Ford will be creating prints based on the story. Social commentary and humor filters through this series Mokahanga, which is a traditional Japanese woodcut process which is included in the prints, along with linoleum cuts, letterpress, and collage… Color for this body of work is monocratic. Memory is faded, distorted and connects to the present.
The exhibition runs from September 5 – October 28, 2017. The opening reception will take place September 8, 6 PM – 8 PM.
This exhibition is generously sponsored by Dan & Bonnie Warmels.
