Gallery on the Green presents: “Autumn Members Exhibition” plus 2 solo exhibits
Cost: Free – the public is warmly invited

The 100+ members of one of Connecticut’s longest running artist guilds are showing new and exciting prints, paintings, photographs and sculptures.

“Human/Nature” is the title of the solo show by painters Carrie Simon and Ruth Jacobson. Simon focuses on floral compositions and Jacobson on portraiture, but both use vibrant color and painting styles that powerfully express the beauty of the subject matter. Simon has exhibited at the Chase Family Gallery, UCONN Health, West Hartford Art League, Art League of New Britain. She has degrees in Art Education from NYU and CCSU.

Jacobson’s portraits capture the essence, the spirit and the dignity of each individual. “I want the viewer to see that light coming from within each person – to experience what I experience; the light, vitality, the dignity in each of us and in all of nature.” She has exhibited at the New Britain Museum of American Art, Slater Memorial Museum, Springfield Museum, Wadsworth Athenaeum, TheaterWorks Gallery, Connecticut Pastel Society, the Connecticut Watercolor Society, and Real Art Ways. Jacobson has a BFA from Tyler School at Temple University.

The second solo show is “After Old Comes New: Masters’ Works Reinterpreted” by Margaret Wilson. Drawing on a long tradition in art, Wilson creates new works by selectively copying and reinterpreting masterpieces by Tintoretto, Vermeer, Klimt, Monet, and others. Some paintings reference the source image literally, while others allude to it more obliquely. She expresses her spontaneous emotional reactions through gesture, color and form to capture the feeling of lightness, pleasure and aliveness. Wilson earned a BS in Studio Art from Skidmore College and her Masters in Art Therapy from Pratt Institute.

Meet the artists at the festive opening reception on Saturday, September 2nd from 6-9 pm.

The gallery is located in Canton at 5 Canton Green Road (corner of Dowd Ave and Rt 44). The gallery is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. The main 1st floor Founders Gallery is handicapped accessible. / Phone: 860-693-4102
