Female\Feminist/2017 examines shifting considerations of how “female” fits into feminism and feminist art today, featuring a diverse and inclusive selection of artists. The exhibition, co-curated by Alva Greenberg and Nancy Gladwell includes diverse media and approaches to art as well, ranging from works on paper and sculpture to painting, photography, and animation.

A panel discussing the exhibition and related themes will take place on Thursday, October 12 at Lyme Academy College at 6PM. Panelists include exhibition co-curators Nancy Gladwell and Alva Greenberg, as well as featured artists Lissa Rivera and Siona Benjamin, as well as others to be announced. The panel will be moderated by Patricia Hickson, Emily Hall Tremaine Curator of Contemporary Art at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Arts.
This exhibition reconsiders what it is to be female and how gender relates to feminism in contemporary society. As Gladwell states, “Not all females are feminist, and not all feminists are female.” To tackle critical dialogues around contemporary feminism, Gladwell and Greenberg draw on an inclusive group of artists and voices across a range of ethnicities, sexual orientation and prior societal expectations. Amongst other issues, this exhibition challenge notions of how women are and should be perceived.

Reception at 5. Panel Discussion at 6.
Admission is Free. Registration is Required.
