“Building the Arts” Grand Opening Celebration & Demos

Free, family-friendly event to experience the newly constructed facilities of The Umbrella Community Arts Center in Historic Concord Center Cultural District.
On Saturday, September 14, from Noon to 3PM, The Umbrella Community Arts Center invites the public to an activity-filled afternoon to celebrate the reopening of its newly renovated facilities in the historic Emerson School building at 40 Stow Street, Concord.
Families can try out creative activities for all ages, visit new art galleries, classrooms and performing arts facilities, preview the upcoming theater season and new class offerings, and participate in collaborative creations.
SOME HIGHLIGHTS:
* In the new atrium Main Gallery, view stunning artwork created Umbrella Artist-in-Residence Nicholas Mancini, created during his year-long live/work residency.
* Catch a fun, tap-dance-filled rehearsal for the spectacular musical, 42nd Street, by the award-winning Umbrella Stage Company.
* Tour two newly constructed, state-of-the-art theater spaces.
* Preview upcoming classes in the bright, airy new arts education classrooms, makerspace, ceramics wing and dance studio.
* Meet some of The Umbrella’s 50+ studio artists and see demonstrations of how they create work.
Plus, enter special drawings and enjoy tasty treats from Reasons to Be Cheerful, who will be on-site with their Chill Wagon full of ice cream!
The Open House is just the first in a full season of free public events, opening celebrations, and expanded programming planned to commemorate The Umbrella’s expansion, to include:
* Art Ramble 2019, environmental public art at Hapgood Wright Town Forest, Concord.
* Earth Press Project: Witness, community sculpture installed by Nancy Winship Milliken Studio at Minute Man Visitor Center, Lexington.
* Story Art: Children’s Book Illustration Exhibition, in the new Umbrella Arts Main Gallery.
* 42nd Street, inaugural main stage performance by The Umbrella Stage Company.
* August Wilson’s Fences, opening performance in the new Umbrella Black Box theater.
