Known for her charismatic and playful ceramic work, artist Kim Dufford has offered the following insight for her February show, titled “The Gathering”.

I love winter most of all. I enjoy each season for its unique gifts but for me, winter is the sweetest time. I especially love that long, dark slope from January through March. It is a time of nestling in, of long nights, of lots of clothes and of hours in the studio uninterrupted by the call of the garden, or a long hike, or a dinner under the stars. I think my best thoughts in the winter, I read my favorite books over again and all of that turning inward affects my artwork.

I thought this show was going to be about very different objects. I thought I was going to create a town, a harbor town with boats arriving. Instead a parade of characters and objects began to present themselves to my imagination. Women whose children were testing their wings, shoes full of worries, a guardian who prepares the way for new adventures, a quiet man, listening intently as the new voices around him come forward. They gathered around me, just as the joys of this quiet season gather.

So this show is that: a celebration of images that come when I am quiet and at home and at rest. I like that.

In addition to Kim Dufford’s work, other fine art will be displayed, including paintings, ceramics, jewelry, photography and sculpture.

Artists on Santa Fe is a gallery with working artists’ studios located in the heart of the Art District on Santa Fe. It’s an engaging environment where visitors can interact with professional artists and view work in progress. The gallery is a local favorite, and was featured in New York Time’s “36 hours” series as one of the most accessible galleries in Denver.

“The Gathering” will be on display throughout the month of February, 2015.
