The Bristol Art Museum announces its next exhibit titled, Miniature Monumental, featuring artwork that can be held in the hand or measures less than 25 square inches in size. The exhibit opens on Sat., Feb. 4 and will be on view until Fri., March 31. An artists’ reception is scheduled for Sun., Feb. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Museum. Patricia Miranda, a New York-based artist, curator and served as juror for the exhibit.

The exhibit includes 94 pieces of art that were chosen among 300 entries from a national call for art. Artists from 33 states and the District of Columbia will be represented in this exhibit.

Also featured in this exhibit is miniature art created and submitted by Bristol Art Museum members. The members’ artwork will be displayed salon style. The artists’ style when creating miniatures can range from conventional to cutting-edge, limited only by the artist’s creativity.

“Once again, the Bristol Art Museum is proud to offer a unique exhibit featuring art from across the nation sharing a different style of art,” said Museum Curator Mary Dondero. “These little treasures take many forms, tend to be easily transported, and have been created from many materials. Miniatures can be mementos of loved ones, illuminated manuscripts, paintings, drawings, original prints, etchings, stamps, sculptures, engraved gems, and even carved beads.”

The exhibit will also feature Russian lacquer boxes on loan from the Museum of Russian Icons in Clinton, Mass. Complementing the display of the lacquer boxes will be a free lecture titled the History of the Russian Lacquer Boxes on Sat., Feb. 25 at the Museum. Registration through Eventbrite is required. The lecture is funded by a generous donation from Bonnie Usher in memory of Gladys L. Usher.
