The Gallery on the Green is holding its second show of the 2015 season called “Members’ Work: Passion”. This show features work from our artist members, close to one hundred talented local artisans, who will respond in unique ways to the theme of passion. The show will run from Friday, February 13th through Sunday, March 15th.

Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, February 14th from 6:00-9:00 pm and enjoy refreshments and a preview of all the beautiful drawings, paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics and sculpture. The reception is free and open to the public.

The second floor galleries host two solo exhibits. In the larger, upstairs gallery is an exhibit of photographs by Tom Cameron entitled “Departures”. Cameron says about his recent work, “…as an engineer almost from birth but with deep roots in nature, I converged on photorealism with a real passion for all things water related. This evolved into an extensive catalog titled “The Farmington River Collection” that has been featured in local solo exhibitions and river related publications. But as a counterpoint to realism, I venture beyond ‘realist’ boundaries for a more aggressive challenge to the imagination. The result has been a new view of that same ‘real’ environment but with an inherently larger gateway to a less structured and more imagination-rich world”.

In the smaller Spotlight Gallery there is a solo exhibit of paintings by Joe Hoke. Hoke’s paintings are all about atmosphere and how light affects an entire landscape. In Joe’s paintings you might see distant hills in the fog after a rain, the sun breaking through clouds illuminating part of the landscape, sunlight and shadows on a building or cars when they give off diffuse light when it’s getting dark.

Hoke is an award-winning painter and national advertising award winner for both copywriting and art direction. He graduated from Pittsburgh Art Institute and worked as a designer and illustrator by day and painted pictures by night. He co-founded Mintz & Hoke Advertising which earned the reputation as the top creative agency in Connecticut and one of the most creative in New England. He now consults and has returned to his love of painting pictures.

The Canton Artists’ Guild at the Gallery on the Green, the longest continuously-running artist guild in the state, has 3 separate galleries and hosts 9 month-long exhibitions each year. The gallery is located near the intersection of Dowd Avenue and Route 44 at 5 Canton Green Road in Canton. Hours are Friday – Sunday, 1-5 pm. The main floor gallery is handicapped accessible.
