The Connecticut Watercolor Society has chosen the Marlborough Arts Center as the venue for their Autumn 2018 Exhibition to be held in November. This is an honor for Marlborough to host one of the Society’s biannual exhibits where over 125 watercolorists from throughout the state and region will enter their works to this highly respected Society.

The Connecticut Watercolor Society was founded in 1938 and presents two Juried Exhibitions annually. Artists may submit up to two paintings of any water media for selection by the jury, usually a nationally recognized artist. That juror selects the paintings to be exhibited as well as those artistic works to receive awards. There will be five major monetary awards at this exhibition.
The President of the Society, John Atwater, has announced that the Juror for this Autumn 2018 Exhibition will be the well-known and fascinating David Dunlop. David is a modern-day old master whose luminous paintings draw from both Renaissance techniques and contemporary science. His paintings have been shown internationally and are held in the collections of many major corporations throughout the country.

David is the engaging host and writer of the 13-show PBS series, ”Landscapes Through Time with David Dunlop”, for which he won an Emmy and a CINE Golden Eagle Award in 2009. “Landscapes…” shows internationally and returned to national television in 2018. In 2017, the second series was nominated for an Emmy. David is also the instructor in a multi-DVD series on painting landscapes produced by SimmonsArt, blogs regularly, and can be seen on YouTube by searching for “David Dunlop videos”, and at www.daviddunlop.com.

David earned his MFA from the Pratt Institute, NY, NY after graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the College of Wooster, Wooster, OH where he was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2011. He is on the faculty of the Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, CT, where he teaches, lectures, gives workshops, and has led groups to Italy, France, Spain, and Japan.

The Opening Reception of the Autumn Exhibition is Sunday, November 11, from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Marlborough Arts Center, 231 North Main Street, Marlborough, CT. The Reception presents an opportunity to view the art and meet the artists in the gracious setting of the beautiful Charles W. Hall Gallery at the Arts Center, a historic building that is fully accessible and has ample parking. Cheryl Cwiertniewicz, Vice President of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, has been their principal liaison to the Marlborough Arts Center in collaborating for this exhibition. The exhibition opens November 3 and closes at 2 p.m. on November 25. The exhibit will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 22. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. on Thursdays through Sundays.
As is always the case, this Connecticut Watercolor Society’s Autumn Exhibition is open to all free of charge and will be a very special opportunity for artists and art lovers alike to view and purchase the finest of watercolor artworks in Connecticut.
