The Connecticut Watercolor Society has chosen the Marlborough Arts Center as the venue for their Autumn 2016 Exhibition to be held in November. This is an honor for Marlborough to host one of the Society’s biannual exhibits where over 125 watercolorists from throughout the state and region will enter their works to this highly respected Society.
The Connecticut Watercolor Society was founded in 1938 and presents two Juried Exhibitions annually. Artists may submit up to two paintings of any water media for selection by the jury, usually a nationally recognized artist. That juror selects the paintings to be exhibited as well as those artistic works to receive awards. There will be four major monetary awards at this Exhibition.
The President of the Society, John Atwater, has announced that the Juror for this Fall 2016 Exhibition will be the well-known Nancy Peel Gladwell who earned her MFA in painting from the University of Hartford School of Art. She has been an Associate Professor of drawing and painting at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, CT since 1994, and is currently Chairman of the Painting Department. Her paintings are included in many public and private collections including the Florence Griswold Museum and the Lyman Allen Museum, both in Old Lyme. She has won many prestigious awards and grants including Best in Show in the “2006 Biennial: Contemporary Realism” held at the Ft. Wayne Museum of Art and the 2001 Posey Foundation Grant for Painting. Gladwell has received numerous commissions and has juried many regional art exhibitions.
The Opening Reception of the Autumn Exhibition is Sunday, November 6, from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Marlborough Arts Center, 231 North Main Street, Marlborough, CT. The Reception presents an opportunity to view the art and meet the artists in the gracious setting of the beautiful Charles W. Hall Gallery at the Arts Center, a historic building that is fully accessible and has ample parking. Cheryl Cwiertniewicz, Secretary of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, has been their principal liaison to the Marlborough Arts Center in collaborating for this Exhibition. The total Exhibition runs from November 5 through November 20. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays, November 9 – 13 and November 16 – 20.
As is always the case, this Connecticut Watercolor Society’s Autumn Exhibition is open to all free of charge and will be a very special opportunity for artists and art lovers alike to view and purchase the finest of watercolor artworks in Connecticut.
