Canton’s Gallery on the Green presents its 51st annual Open Juried Exhibition and solo exhibition by Susan Bradley. The Shows open Friday, October 12th and run through Saturday, November 10th. The gallery is free and the public is always invited. Hours are Friday – Sunday, 1-5 pm.
The selections were made by Melanie Carr, owner of Melanie Carr Gallery in Essex Connecticut. As this is an open exhibition, it features the work of artists from all over Connecticut and beyond. On display is fine art in a wide variety of styles, media and subject matter including painting, drawing, photography, ceramics and sculpture. The juror awards prizes totaling more than $1500. Prize funders include Union Savings Bank, Collinsville Savings Society, Charles & Doris Currier Memorial Fund, Mitchell Manchester Fund and Mitchell Auto Group, Maxwell Shepherd Memorial Arts Fund, Inc., Nancy Cloutier Memorial, Peg Douglas Memorial Fund, A & J Quality Roofing, Jerry’s Artarama West Hartford CT, Smith Edwards McCoy Architects, object|resonance, Neu/Haviland, Bridge Street Live,and others.
Susan Bradley has a solo of her oil paintings. The show is entitled “Crossroads” and reflects her love of drawing the human form. She earned a B.F.A. in Art Education and Printmaking, M.A.Ed. Special Education, and M.F.A. in Painting and has devoted her work to art and teaching. She has been an Art Educator at the Renbrook School, Cobb School Montessori and University of Hartford. A long time member and past President of the Board of the Canton Artist’s Guild, Gallery on the Green, she currently is the Coordinator of the Art on Campus Program at Hartford Art School, University of Hartford and teaches drawing this fall. Bradley has worked with a variety of mediums and techniques both two and three-dimensional.
An opening reception and awards presentation will be held on Saturday, October 13th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. It is a wonderful opportunity to view the art and meet many of the artists in person.
The Gallery on the Green, established in 1960, is the longest continuously running artists’ guild in Connecticut. It is housed in a schoolhouse (circa 1872). It has 3 separate galleries, an outdoor sculpture garden and hosts 9 month-long exhibitions each year. The gallery is located near the intersection of Dowd Avenue and Route 44 at 5 Canton Green Road in Canton. The main floor gallery is handicapped accessible.
