Crocker Art Museum presents Sam Francis: Five Decades of Abstract Expressionism from California Collections. The explores Sam’s historically significant works. Featured will be a range of the artist’s paintings and works on paper. Included will be different periods of the artist’s portfolio of California collections, starting with early works made in the San Francisco Bay Area. The show will lead to the very prolific body of work created between the 1950’s and the 1990’s.

The strongest group of the artist’s works will be the California studio pieces in Palo Alto, Point Reyes, Santa Monica, and Venice, as well as those made when Francis was living in New York, Switzerland, and Japan.
