Over looking an 80-foot bluff on the edge of the Tennessee River, the Hunter Museum of American Art is a modern building with endless views of the river and the surrounding mountains.

The museum offers a collection of American art considered to be one of the country’s finest and comprehensive. The art is arranged to chronologically and by period to better understand American history and the transitions of American arts.

The collection includes paintings, works on paper, sculpture and furniture. Well known artists represented in the Hunter include Thomas Cole, Fitzhugh Lane, Winslow Homer, Mary Cassatt, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, John Marin, Thomas Hart Benton, Helen Frankenthaler, Louise Nevelson, Jack Beal, George Segal, Duane Hanson and Robert Rauschenberg.
