In 1998 the El Paso Museum of Art moved into a new building after fifty years since its founding. The museum’s start was humble, displaying the work of artists in the region, but after the Samuel H. Kress Foundation gift and support by the city, two large wings were added to the original building in 1961 to house fifty-nine Renaissance and Baroque works of art.

The museum’s collection continues to expand and in the 1990’s built a new state of the art structure that transformed into Arts Festival Plaza.

Today the museum collection focuses on European Old Masters, American art, Spanish Colonial art and contemporary artwork of the Southwest
