The daffodils have bloomed and the sun is out! It is time to celebrate spring and take advantage of the beautiful walking city in downtown Newport by joining the Newport Gallery Organization for this month’s Gallery Night, on Thursday, May 8, 2014. From 5:00pm until 8:00pm pm, enjoy Newport’s many fabulous art galleries and all the wonderful events they have to offer. Newport Gallery Night is the perfect excuse to take a night off and enjoy the arts. 
Highlights of May Newport Gallery Night include a dichroic glass jewelry workshop with local artist, Denise Wilkey, at Beach Studios gallery. Sheldon Fine Art invites you to view artwork by Cape Cod artist Neil McAuliffe. McAuliffe’s oils offer a realistic style with serene colors that have a calming effect. Be sure to take a stroll down Bannister’s Wharf and stop in Harbor Fine Art, where owner and artist Betty Ann will be displaying her paintings of the United States Marine Corp and American Flags, of which a portion is donated to the Semper Fi Fund, a nonprofit set up to provide support for injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Also, DeBlois Gallery will feature photographer Chris Alvanas of Portsmouth and potter Josh Leonti of Bristol in their upcoming show: ECLIPSE. The Bailey Art Gallery will be holding an Open House for their artist of the month, Anne Ewing of Newport, from 5:30pm -7:30pm. They invite you to stop into the Gallery and view Anne’s beautiful paintings of colored pencil, as well as to enjoy some light refreshments. Lastly, do not miss your chance to see the HopArts Studio Trail Artists, featured this May at Spring Bull Gallery. HopArts features a diverse group of exhibitors including painters, fiber artists, sculptors, potters, wood turners and jewelers who have all come together to promote and support the visual arts.
