April 18 – May 4 Core Member Exhibit: Phyllis Anderson, and Forging Forms: A Sculpture Showcase

Details:  Exploring Landscape: Dreams and Theories – Phyllis Anderson

Landscape is a form unto itself, surely one of the most ancient, various, and enduring of art forms. As a painter, (which for Phyllis means a desire to use this medium over any other, an addiction to its seductive pleasures of texture and invented colors), landscape offers a relatively narrow subject matter; a limit to what will appear in a picture. Yet, the artist’s approach to landscape is in fact limitless. In this group of paintings, Phyllis Anderson presents versions of the Colorado landscape, visual thought experiments from several years of picture-making, borrowing and discarding theories and styles, and sometimes, seeking only the fleeting beauty of dreams.

Forging Forms: A Sculpture Showcase,  A Celebration of Art and Innovation

We are excited to announce our upcoming sculpture show curated by Percy Cardona. This event will feature the work of five sculptors, each showcasing their unique style. The show will highlight different approaches and materials in sculpture.

The sculpture show will be held at CORE Art Space in Lakewood which provides a welcoming space for visitors to explore and appreciate the art. Each artist’s work will be displayed in dedicated sections, allowing guests to fully experience their unique vision. Join us in celebrating the power of sculpture and the talent of these four artists. This show offers a chance to view extraordinary art and engage with the artists’ processes and stories, gaining insight into their inspirations and techniques.

Featured Artists

Percy Cardona combines abstract sculpture with repurposed materials, engaging the viewer’s imagination while challenging traditional boundaries. His work features bold forms and dynamic compositions using discarded objects, creating visually striking pieces that invite thoughtful reflection and encourage viewers to see beauty in everyday materials.

Roland Morales specializes in stonework, showing meticulous craftsmanship and detail. Working with marble and granite, he transforms raw stone into intricate forms, often reflecting themes of nature and human experience.

Virgilio Alomar blends various styles and materials in his work. Whether using metal, wood, or mixed media, his sculptures balance form and function, appealing to a wide range of artistic tastes.

Anthony LaCombe creates a balance between sculptural material and open space while influenced by everyday objects and his mestizo background. His preferred mediums are stone and wood.

Baltazar Alvarado’s subject matter “tends to be those fragmentary images that reside within his thoughts.” His carvings are about the pleasure of seeing what stone, wood or clay offers to his hands.
