The Espejo Organization for the Arts and Rabbithole Projects are honored to present Beach Lovers: Four Seasons, an exhibition by Canadian artist Erica Reade. In this one-night-only show, Reade will present a collection of intimate moments shared by couples she has observed at Rockaway Beach.
Whether sharing a picnic, long laughs, or a lazy limb-entwined nap on a beach blanket, this series presents the small moments of tenderness between lovers away from the hurried climate of New York City. This series speaks to how raw and exposed we are on the beach, stripped of our clothes, our makeup, our status markers. Using a combination of digital, analog, and instant Polaroid photographs, Reade’s work evokes feelings of nostalgia, endless summer and admiration for the ocean’s vast beauty and the intimacy people find and create while enjoying the sea. This photo series illustrate love and sensuality in their purest states.
Born and raised in Montreal Canada, Erica Reade is a self-taught photographer who works in both digital and analog formats. She is a member of the SohoPhoto Gallery and founder of Camera of the Month Club, a group that supports emerging and mid-career dedicated photographers from across NYC, who are as passionate about experimenting with different cameras as they are about shooting photos. Reade’s work is held in private collections in the US and Canada. Her work has been featured in exhibitions all around New York City including Frontrunner Gallery, Ground Floor Gallery, SohoPhoto Gallery, and the International Center of Photography. Erica has also dedicated her career to work in the field of youth development, women’s empowerment and human rights, both locally and internationally, using the media arts to spread a message of nonviolence.
This exhibition is curated and organized by The Espejo Organization for the Arts. EOarts is an arts management organization based in Bushwick, Brooklyn, that supports and promotes the work of mid-career and emerging international artists and creatives. Since 2013, EOarts has developed workshops, exhibitions, publications, art residencies, and many other programs with the mission to create an international and multicultural community that will open new possibilities and perspectives for culture worldwide.
The exhibition is presented by Rabbithole Projects. Rabbithole Projects is a contemporary art space located on the waterfront of the Dumbo arts district in Brooklyn. Since 2006, the gallery has exhibited works by emerging and mid-career artists, presenting over 60 group and solo shows as a participant gallery in Dumbo’s First Thursday series of art walks. The space operates as a project room, providing artists a forum for showing new works and works-in-progress. Rabbithole Projects also hosts a series of special events, from movie screenings, readings, yoga classes, and the Brooklyn Creative program of artist workshops.
