Call: Let Music Speak and Black Vulture Project invite artists to submit proposals for a permanent outdoor sculpture inspired by the life and work of Margaret Hamilton. Margaret Hamilton, a native of Paoli, Indiana, developed the on-board flight software for the Apollo Space program, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama for her work. Proposed works may be in any permanent medium or style.
The sculpture will be unveiled on April 13, 2019 as part of a community event in Paoli, IN.
Eligibility: Open to artists in all locations; preference is given to artists with strong ties to Indiana and/or the region.
The selected artwork will be chosen by a committee including a prominent local artist, a director of a prominent art gallery as well as representatives from both Let Music Speak and Black Vulture Project.
An honorarium of $1200 will be awarded to the selected artist upon completion of the project. Housing, workspace, and installation assistance will be provided for the artist at the time of installation. The selected artist will also have the opportunity to present a 3-week solo exhibit and reception with prominent local curators and directors at the Black Vulture Project Gallery in 2019, and to create a collaborative performance piece with members of Let Music Speak and Black Vulture Project, to be presented at PaoliFest 2019.
For consideration, the following must be submitted:
1. Cover Letter, include any personal connection you may have with the geographical region of Southern Indiana
2. CV
3. 10 images (w/image list) of past work (JPG or PNG, 2MG-10MB OR), May include (1) video and (1) audio work
4. Full proposal with drawing/rendering, a detailed material list, budget, installation method.
5. $15 submission fee, payable via Paypal to vendors@letmusicspeak.org
