This is a show about how an artist’s sexual identity relates to the way in which they express their desire. Using Carson McCullers’ The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and Sarah Gubbins’ FML: How Carson McCullers Saved My Life as emotional touchstones, the show will examine the moment when self-preservation and the compulsion to express ones feelings meet – when ‘the love that dares not’, actually dares. This is not an exclusively “queer” show, more “queer-ish”. All people who have loved in the face of opposition are encouraged to apply.
This exhibition is for Chicago-area artists only, or those artists able to drop off and collect their work in person. All media are welcomed, but due to size limitations, three-dimensional work must not protrude from the wall more than 24″. The exhibition will be held from January 29 – March 1, 2015 in Loyola University’s Newhart Promenade, with an opening reception Thursday, January 29.
